Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral is my passion. I have practiced massage, Reiki and reflexology since 2004. With those modalities, my clients experience deep relaxation, relief of pain, increase in energy, and overall increased feeling of wellbeing. With the addition of craniosacral therapy, I have seen issues resolve on a much deeper level. It usually will take several sessions to get to the root of an issue, but it is more easily accessible to get there through the CST paradigm. I, as the practitioner, am there to facilitate what your body needs without an agenda, by simply following. There are several different schools of craniosacral therapy, each with their unique approach. My training is with the Upledger Institute. Potential clients are encouraged to research these different schools and find what resonates most for them. I welcome your questions. I combine my extensive training with neuromuscular therapy, bone based awareness therapy, reiki and craniosacral to help heal the whole being.

CST
As craniosacral therapists, we believe that there is a part of each of us that already knows how to heal yet may need more resources. My job is to be one of those resources to assist in whatever is needed to complete the healing process. Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, light touch approach that releases tension in the central nervous system so that every other system in the body can relax, self-correct, and free itself of pain and discomfort. This is accomplished by working with the craniosacral rhythm, gentle fascial releases, and gentle release of the structures of the spine and cranial bones, as well as addressing the emotional component, if any. It is important to remember that each of us has a different pace of healing, many different layers that need healing, and most of us will continue to need healing work in some capacity as life continues to add stressors.

SomatoEmotional Release
A part of this therapy is called SomatoEmotional Release. We believe through Dr. John Upledger's (and other colleagues') research and our experience (and scientists are beginning to catch up with this theory) that physical and/or emotional trauma can be held within the body's tissues. SomatoEmotional Release is based on the concept that our tissues can hold memory. Our tissue may protectively hold on to something in a more concentrated, smaller area of the body rather than diffusing it, which in that moment of trauma may have created further destruction and disorganization in your body. This smaller area of disorganization in your body is a perfectly natural protective mechanism. As therapists, we attempt to get to the bottom of what it will take for your body to feel it doesn't need to protect you in that way any longer. We feel that the most effective way to clear up this kind of issue is by addressing both the physical/fascial part of the trauma, and the emotional side.

What does a session look like?
Sessions are done fully clothed on a treatment table. Please make sure to wear comfortable, non-binding clothing. Every craniosacral session looks different. The therapist will follow your body's signals which will tell us that we are on the right track. Where our hands end up may seem totally unrelated to the issue you came in with, however, because we have asked your body to help us address that issue, the piece we are working with is most certainly important to the process. A session may be addressing the structural/fascia, and/or may involve an emotional release. If indicated, the session could include intra-oral work (inside the mouth). Some of the cranial bones are best address with mouth work.

When a therapist receives a signal to your body that something important is happening, and working with tissue does not seem to be shifting the restriction, it could indicate an emotional connection to the body's process. In this case we will ask a question, and the first thing that comes to mind is the answer we are looking for. It can come as a word, image, a being, color, texture, place. Anything that comes to mind is usually correct for your unique process even if it seems completely unrelated to the question or to what's happening. Your body will give us another signal when it's the correct answer and we will then continue with that path of healing, and dialoging when indicated. This process can lead us to complete release of the issue in question, and it also may take a few or many sessions to get to the root of it. If possible, it is ideal to book at least a 75 minute session, however we know that time and financial constraints exist and therefore can still get much accomplished in a 1 hour session.

Craniosacral Therapy can help address TMJD, headaches, depression, chronic ailments, fatigue, trauma and many more ailments.
